Since 1910, the site of today’s Perth Rectangular Stadium has been a home for sports. Over the years, the arena has been repeatedly rebuilt and renovated. In the meantime, the only rectangular stadium in the Australian megacity near the Swan River is a state-of-the-art event venue for sports and music. While pop and rock stars such as Ed Sheeran and Sir Elton John have already made the arena shake, the Women’s World Cup is the first international sports highlight to be held in Perth Rectangular Stadium.
The sports facility was renovated this year especially for the World Cup. Prior to this, GKD – Gebr. Kufferath AG from Düren, Germany, also played its part in the modernization with refurbishment work. Australian architects Cox Architecture used GKD materials to give the home ground of Perth Glory FC and the Western Force a new look in 2012. For this purpose, 32 panels with a total of 2000m2 of Omega 1520 stainless steel mesh with bronze weft were installed. In addition to practical aspects such as wind and rain protection, the GKD facade has another function: it gives the Perth Rectangular Stadium a recognizable face.
