20. January 2023Modern bronze mesh for traditional copper architecture
GKD project in Scandinavia wins the European Copper in Architecture Award 2011: a modern take on traditional architecture.
The Vantaa community, which is also home to the airport of the same name in the Finnish capital of Helsinki, commissioned the architects at Avanto to design a new chapel and funeral hall. Among other things, three grieving rooms of different sizes were created. A special version of Baltic architectural mesh was produced in bronze specifically for the ceilings and walls, as well as the interior and exterior façade cladding.
Prior to installation, the bronze metallic fabric was patinated in green by a local artist using a special process.
