20. January 2023Architectural mesh for Formula-1-circuit in Shanghai
GKD's Tigris stainless steel mesh was used to clad the stands at the racing circuit.
Working together with the office of Tilke Architekten + Ingenieure, GKD completed the façade cladding project within just three and a half months – from the contract award to shipment of the final mesh panels.
The cladding of the stands at the Shanghai International Circuit is made up of 157 elements, each measuring up to 30 meters long and 7.70 meters wide. In keeping with the spectator seating, the panels were hung in steps along the main façade. On the secondary stands, some 48 panels were bent 35° across their entire height of approximately nine meters in a procedure performed on site.
This represents an impressive architectural symbiosis between Far Eastern tradition and Western expertise thanks to architectural mesh from GKD.
