20. January 2023Large-scale metal fabric application: French national library
The internationally renowned architect Dominique Perrault used large quantities of metal mesh in interior design for the first time for the construction of the new French national library. In the year in which the library opened its doors, Perrault was presented with the Mies van der Rohe Award for European Architecture for the high-profile project in the heart of Paris.
The Bibliothèque Nationale de France demonstrates the immense variety of applications in which the architectural metal mesh from GKD can be deployed: suspended ceilings made of stainless steel mesh in various forms and weaves in the reading rooms, large-scale mesh wall hangings in the entrance hall, sound-absorbing partition walls in the multimedia rooms and semitransparent solar protection elements.
Alongside its functional properties, the GKD metal fabric also impresses with its fascinating visual appearance, with the shaped metal mesh elements subtly reflecting lights and colors.
