20. January 2023Metal mesh rails on the Nichols Bridgeway
The rails made of PC-Tigris stainless steel mesh protects visitors of the Chicago Art Institute while also granting them unobstructed views of the city’s skyline.
The Modern Wing of the Chicago Art Institute, designed by the famous Renzo Piano architectural firm and opened in 2009, is situated immediately opposite Chicago’s Millennium Park.
Visitors access the museum via the Nichols Bridgeway. The bridge features a balustrade consisting of 112 frames filled with PC-Tigris stainless steel mesh. With a typical width of 3.9 m and a height of 1.4 m, the metal mesh protects pedestrians. The view of the Chicago skyline remains in full sight thanks to the transparency of the mesh.
