Efficient solutions for water treatment, for secondary raw materials and recycling, will be the focus of IFAT, the leading trade show for environmental technology, which opens its doors on May 30 in Munich. IFAT is the ideal platform for GKD. The global market leader for solutions made of metal, synthetic, and spiral mesh will present products and applications from the industrial mesh and process belts segments for higher water quality and greater sustainability.
Alongside process belts used in sewage sludge dewatering and drying, GKD’s appearance at the show will center around industrial mesh for water and sewage filtration. One of the challenges in this area is the ever growing requirements for filter media, such as for separating fine microplastic particles out of water. “Porosity must be high to ensure that filter equipment can be built on a compact scale and good throughput in filtration is guaranteed,” explains Peter Wirtz, head of industrial mesh at GKD. This is the case, for instance, with optimized dutch weave, which has around 1.5 million pores over an area the size of an American quarter. Wirtz says, “The design of the pore is what makes the difference in such innovations.”
GKD also lives up to its role as technological leader in the process belt segment. For example, the mesh specialists from Düren, Germany, have been supplying proven products such as belt types 1003 and 5090 for sewage sludge dewatering for years. “Due to legal specifications as well as current developments on the energy market, demand for dried sewage sludge is increasing as a carbon-neutral energy carrier,” explains Volker Meuser, senior sales & application manager for process belts at GKD. In close collaboration with the customer, GKD also develops dryer belts for high or low-temperature dryers. “Even large systems that require especially wide, long belts don’t pose a challenge for us,” claims Meuser.
At IFAT, GKD experts will be on hand to inform visitors about the potential of technical weave as filter media and process belts for environmental technology and how they can be employed.
