10. March 2025Tex System
The Tex system is used to determine the linear density of yarns. The unit Tex describes the weight in grams per 1,000 meters of yarn; it is widely used in the textile industry and internationally standardized. Related units include Denier, which indicates the weight per 9,000 meters, and Decitex (dtex), which refers to 10,000 meters. A yarn with 20 tex therefore weighs 20 grams per kilometer. Knowing the Tex value is essential for fabric design: it influences mesh size, strength, product weight, and permeability. At GKD, both metal and plastic yarns with specific Tex values are used to achieve defined pore sizes and mechanical properties. For fine filtration, smaller Tex values with correspondingly thin filaments are required, while coarse filtration can use higher Tex values.
