10. March 2025Size Fraction
A size fraction is a subset of particles within a defined size range (e.g., 90–125 µm). Fractionation through sieving or classification helps analyse which particle classes dominate filter performance. Coarse fractions build permeable cake structures that allow drainage; fine fractions control clarity and risk of blinding. Regular PSD monitoring identifies process shifts that affect ∆p, washing, or dryness. Representative sampling and calibrated sieves are essential for reliable fraction data. Understanding dominant size fractions enables precise selection of pore size, surface finish, and conditioning strategy for optimal filtration performance.
