The mesh count (often referred to as mesh number) indicates the number of openings in a defined length—typically measured in meshes per inch or meshes per centimeter. It reflects the fineness of the mesh: the higher the mesh count, the finer the mesh and the smaller the pores.
Mesh counts for test sieves are standardized in DIN ISO 3310.

In addition to the mesh count, other parameters such as wire diameter and weave type are crucial for determining the actual pore size and open area.
