A hook strip is a reinforced edge on screen or filter fabrics, usually in the form of a bent metal strip (hook strip), which is attached to the edges of the fabric. These hook strips allow the mesh to be hung in a screening machine and firmly tensioned.
Hook strips make it possible to securely fix screen cloth in vibrating or tensioning screens and keep it under tension. They distribute the tensile forces evenly over the edge of the mesh and prevent the wires from tearing out. There are various designs (e.g. type A, type C) for different wire thicknesses and tensioning systems, in which the shape and angle of the hooks are adapted. The use of hook strips makes it easier to change sieve layers quickly, as the mesh mats are supplied pre-assembled with hooks. Typical applications are in bulk material screening (e.g. mining, quarries), where large-format screen meshes are clamped in vibrating screens. Hook strips are rarely used in the architectural application of metal mesh, as other fastening methods (clamping profiles, clamping strips) are used there.
