HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) denotes a class of air filters certified to remove a very high percentage of fine aerosols at the most penetrating particle size (MPPS), typically ≥99.97% at ~0.3 µm per common standards. While developed for air and cleanroom use, the underlying physics—diffusion, interception and inertial impaction—informs liquid applications where sub‑micron retention is required. Construction uses fine fibrous media formed into pleated packs with spacers that preserve channel geometry at low pressure drop; leak‑tight gaskets and frames prevent bypass. For industrial buyers, acceptance testing includes MPPS‑based efficiency and leak scans; lifecycle control tracks pressure drop to schedule change‑out. Where HEPA‑type elements are exposed to CIP or sterilisation, material compatibility and retained efficiency after cycles must be verified. In process lines, HEPA concepts appear as vent or sterile air filters protecting vessels and preventing airborne contamination.
