GeoDict is a software suite for digital material modelling and simulation of porous media and fibrous structures. It reconstructs 3D models of meshes, nonwovens and granular beds from statistical descriptors or image data and predicts flow, permeability, filtration efficiency, mechanical deformation and other properties via numerical solvers. In filtration R&D and product engineering, tools like GeoDict help optimise pore architecture, evaluate capture mechanisms (diffusion, interception, straining) and balance permeability against retention before physical prototypes are built. Successful use depends on accurate input—filament/wire diameters, orientation distributions, layer stacking, contact physics—and on validating predictions against porometry, permeability and retention tests. Coupling such simulations with CFD for manifolds and with structural analysis for seam and support loads accelerates design cycles and reduces trial‑and‑error on the shop floor.
