Crimped wire cloth (also known as crimped wire cloth) consists of metal wires that are formed into waves (crimped) before or during weaving. These pre-formed wires interlock at the crossing points, which means that the mesh remains very stable and the mesh openings remain unchanged. The pre-profiled (cranked) structure prevents the wires from slipping and fixes the openings.
These meshes are often used as screening and protective meshes, especially when larger openings and high stability are required. Typical applications include heavy-duty screens in mineral processing or mining, screens for bulk materials (e.g. gravel, coal) and safety or protective grids where it is essential to prevent the wires from slipping. Crimped wire mesh is also used in architecture: The wavy wires create interesting light and shadow effects, and the mesh retains its shape despite being very open. Such meshes are suitable for façades, ceiling cladding or railing fillings, for example, where both transparency and robustness are required.
