10. March 2025Batch Mode
Batch mode filtration processes discrete volumes of slurry in sequential cycles rather than continuous flow. Each cycle includes fill, filtration, washing, deliquoring, and discharge. Typical equipment includes filter presses, candle filters, and vacuum pans. Batch operation allows precise control of endpoint parameters (clarity, moisture, yield) and easy cleaning between products, making it suitable for specialty chemicals and biotech. Drawbacks are higher labour and idle times compared to continuous systems. Cycle analytics—∆p versus time, filtrate clarity, and residual heel—guide optimisation for consistency and energy efficiency. Hybrid semi-continuous modes combine batch precision with automated handling for higher productivity.
