5. August 2024Mandeville Art Gallery – University of California San Diego
Built in 1975 and designed by renowned Southern California architect A. Quincy Jones, the Mandeville Art Gallery has long been a fixture on the University of California San Diego campus. UCSD decided to modernize the art gallery to attract outside artists and make it more visible on campus to students and faculty. San Diego-based Studio E. Architects was hired to redesign the interior and exterior of the gallery. They set out to create a design that would transcend the campus and create a social center for the community. They turned to Syska Hennessey Group, experts in art and lighting, to help them install a large, wraparound media screen that both draws attention and provides artistic opportunities. GKD Mediamesh, a patented transparent media façade consisting of integrated LED tubes and robust stainless steel metal mesh, was able to turn this idea into reality.
